good advice on Randori

 On Reddit "Judo Beard"

Best advice I've EVER been given by Sensei Palacio is "PLAY. Judo." Relax and try and have fun. if your Uke is being too defensive instead of trying to "throw them" try and move around them. The goal shifts from trying to stick your opponent with a throw and try and get some Kuzushi. With that you will probably get thrown, but don't waste time and become frustrated, get up and get moving again. My judo game went up quite a bit when I was able to let go of trying to launch my Uke and allowed myself to see what movements and tendencies my Uke's have during Randori, which grips make them feel uncomfortable, and how do I get Uke to step around towards my sleeve grip? All of these things became apparent when I started "Playing Judo" and stopped taking it so seriously. If someone is playing defensive and sticking their ass out with double stiff arms. Why not run laps around them? I do it all the time! Something is gonna happen! Either they're going to step in with a big O-goshi or you're gonna round the corner and get a reaching O-Soto right? and then you'll get back up and do it again.
